Money out and stock

Where do I record stock, materials or goods for resale?

SoleBusinessPro

Quick answer

Open Money Out and record the payment once with its date, amount, supplier and receipt or invoice. Choose Stock, materials and goods (shown as Cost of goods bought for resale or goods used in professional wording). Keep private purchases separate and check the current GOV.UK guidance if one payment contains both business and personal items.

Step by step

  1. Choose Money Out and enter the payment once.
  2. Record the date, amount, supplier and a description of the stock, goods or materials.
  3. Choose Stock, materials and goods, or Cost of goods bought for resale or goods used in professional wording.
  4. Attach the receipt or supplier invoice and keep private purchases separate.
  5. Review the linked GOV.UK guidance when a purchase has both business and personal items.

Check current official guidance
